You may be very anxious about getting into the process. Think about it as an optimization: the optimization of one's well-being and capability to orchestrate a rewarding time on Earth. It will contribute to your continued growth and to what family, a formal education, and life did not accomplish: a sense of comfort with who you are. It is unfortunate that many conceptualize psychotherapy as a stigma.
To benefit from the process, a person needs to be willing to commit to it. This means, to take responsibility for one's destiny. Psychotherapy is not about fixing the world: it is about learning to look at it and at oneself differently. It is about becoming aware of, enhancing, and learning to use our personal skills, our personal abilities, and our personal talents to either modify or adapt to our environment.
"The Serenity to accept what I cannot change, the courage to change what I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." (The Serenity Prayer)
